Overview of the 1st Six Weeks

Dear Students,

Welcome to an awesome year in Reading! This school year, you will challenged to go beyond the text to create an understanding and a unique connection. The curriculum has been strategically planned to ensure your academic success. Please continue to remain focused and willing. I appreciate all of your hard work thus far!

This blog will be updated weekly to provide as much detail about the class instruction.

Up to this point, we have learned a systematic routine to tackle vocabulary and short answer responses. We will continue to work with the plot development in fiction and methods of annotations.

By the end of the first six weeks, we will complete the following -

·        Vocabulary Quiz – Please continue to study.

·        Read and analyze poem (TPDASTT) – “Moco Limping”

·        Begin reading class novel, Tears of a Tiger.

·        “Raymond’s Run” & “A Mother in Mannville” Quiz

·        Work with key literary terms.

·        More Quotation Analysis (Dialectical Journal)

Students, also remember that independent reading is key this school year. You must have a book in class everyday, and you should be reading at night for at least 30 minutes. You will be provided with ample library time to check out new books and take AR tests. This is the time to truly read something you love!

You know my door is always open! Please see me or email me to schedule an after school tutorial session.

Thank you again. I wish you all the best this school year.
